In the previous lesson, LaserMaker shared with you the cute Pikachu car-mounted nodding ornament. Today, LaserMaker will continue to introduce the production method of the “Felt Document Bag” in the beginner-level course “LaserMaker Laser Creation”.

I. Introduction

A document bag is a type of bag used to store personal items or identity documents, such as data bags and white folders. They come in various styles, including buckle-type and document sleeve-type, and are made from a wide range of materials, including PP, PVC, kraft paper, and oxford fabric. Today, LaserMaker will guide you in learning how to make a document bag using felt fabric. This issue of LaserMaker brings you the creation “Felt Document Bag”!

II. Work Analysis

IV. Laser Modeling

1. Design of the Document Bag Style

(1) Click on the 【Rectangle】 tool from the 【Drawing Toolbar】 on the left side and drag it on the canvas to create a rectangle with dimensions of 320×220, as shown in the figure below:

(2) Select the rectangle, press ctrl+c to copy it, and then press ctrl+v to paste the rectangle. Align the two rectangles so that their ends meet. Next, select the pattern and use the 【Eraser】 tool from the 【Drawing Toolbar】 on the left side, specifically the 【Break Line Segment】 function, to break and delete the line segments A and B, as shown in the figure below:

(3) Click on the 【Line】 tool from the 【Drawing Toolbar】 on the left side and draw a 3mm line. Select the line and use the 【Array】 tool to set it to 【Vertical Array】 with a vertical count of “75” and a vertical spacing of “3”. This will create the dashed line on the left side, which you can then move to the inside left edge of the rectangle. Use the same method to create the dashed line on the right side, as shown in the figure below:

(4) Click on the 【Grid】 tool below the canvas and use the 【Line Segment】 tool to draw the lid of the document bag. Select the lid and use the 【Rounding】 tool to set the parameter to “10mm” to round its corners. Then, use the 【Ellipse】 tool to draw a perfect circle with a diameter of “3mm” and place it directly below the lid, as shown in the figure below:

(7) Click on the 【Font】 tool from the 【Drawing Toolbar】 on the left side and enter “Creating Unique Value for Customers” and “LaserMaker” separately. Set the font to “Kai” and the font size to “Chuhao” (largest size). Set “LaserMaker” to “Italic.” Then, use the 【Line Segment】 tool to draw a straight line on both the left and right sides of “LaserMaker,” as shown in the figure below:

2. Process Settings

(1) Select the “dashed line and the two straight lines on the right side.” Left-click on the layer panel in the lower left corner and change the layer color to red. Next, select the “image” and the “font,” and left-click on the layer panel to change their layer color to yellow. Finally, select the “outline of the document bag and the perfect circle,” and left-click on the layer panel to change their layer color to black, as shown in the figure below:

(2) Double-click on the red layer in the 【Processing Panel】 on the right-hand side and add a custom material named “felt.” Double-click on “Custom” and set the English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese names to “felt,” “毛毡,” and “毛毡,” respectively. Set the thickness to 3mm. Double-click on the empty icon and select an image of the felt material. Finally, set the material, thickness, and process to “felt,” “3mm,” and “Outline Cutting,” respectively, as shown in the figure below:

(3) Double-click on the yellow layer in the 【Processing Panel】 on the right-hand side and set the material, thickness, and process to “felt,” “3mm,” and “Light Engraving,” respectively. Next, double-click on the black layer in the 【Processing Panel】 and set the material, thickness, and process to “felt,” “3mm,” and “Cutting.” Arrange the layers in the order of “Outline Cutting,” “Light Engraving,” and “Cutting,” as shown in the figure below:

3. Sewing Processing

First, use a needle and thread to sew the left and right sides of the document bag together along the dashed line. Then, use a hand press to attach the five-prong snap button to the position of the perfect circle on the document bag.

VI. Conclusion

During the production process of this example, our ultimate goal was to sew a document bag. Therefore, during the design drafting stage, we had to consider how to process the materials to make sewing easier and more convenient. As a result, the LaserMaker skillfully employed an array to create dashed lines for sewing the document bag. Additionally, a perfect circle was crafted for attaching the five-prong snap button. Drawing and modeling are not difficult tasks; one must simply engage in frequent practice and experimentation to become a better designer!
