Part One: Scenario Introduction

Ambient lighting, also known as LED ambient lighting, is an ideal choice for theme parks, hotels, homes, exhibitions, commercial spaces, and artistic lighting among LED lights. It creates the desired atmosphere for people’s lives. People can set their favorite patterns and styles according to their own lighting needs, and use different ambient lights based on their requirements and the situation of the scene.

If you want to use different ambient lights in various scenarios of your life, you can try making them yourself. In this issue, our laser expert brings you a DIY project: “DIY Ambient Lighting”!

 Square Frame Design

1. Click on the “Creation” button in the top toolbar with the left mouse button, select “Right-angled Box”, and set the length, width, and height to “100, 100, 60” with a groove size of “15” as shown in the figure below.

2. Click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar with the left mouse button, set the width and height to “94, 6”, and place it above the lower cover as shown in the figure below.
software building DIY Ambient Lighting 4
3. Click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar with the left mouse button, set the width and height to “21.3, 5”, and place it in the middle of the groove above the lower cover as shown in the figure below.

4. Click on the rear cover with the left mouse button and rotate it “90°”, then move it to the left side of the lower cover. Click on the right cover with the left mouse button and move it to the bottom of the lower cover as shown in the figure below.
software building DIY Ambient Lighting 6
5. Click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar with the left mouse button, set the width and height to “94, 94”, and place it in the middle of the lower cover. Select the rectangle, click on the “Offset Curve” tool in the left toolbar, and set the offset size to “10, inward offset” as shown in the figure below:

6. Click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar with the left mouse button, and draw three rectangles: Rectangle 1 with a width and height of “10, 21.6”, and Rectangles 2 and 3 with a width and height of “3, 10”;

Align Rectangle 1 to the upper right corner of the lower cover;
Connect Rectangles 2 and 3, and center-align them to the right of Rectangle 1.
Select Rectangles 1, 2, and 3, copy and paste them, and place the copied rectangles in the lower right corner of the lower cover.

Duplicate and paste the two sets of Rectangles 1, 2, and 3, and then perform a “Horizontal Mirror” operation on them. Place the mirrored sets aligned to the left side of the lower cover.

Select Rectangles 3 and 4, duplicate and paste them, and then move the duplicated rectangles to the center of the lower cover as shown in the figure below:

7. With the left mouse button, select the three rectangles within the red area 1, duplicate and paste them twice, and place them on the left and right sides of the lower cover, respectively.

Select the rectangles within red areas 2 and 3 along with the two rectangles in the lower cover, duplicate and paste them once to obtain the pattern within red area 4.
Finally, perform a “Union” operation between the outer rectangle and the six rectangles on both sides as shown in the figure below.

8. With the left mouse button, click on a rectangle, set the rounded corner radius to “5”, and apply rounded corners to the inner rectangles of both lower covers. Delete the three rectangles on both sides of the left lower cover and modify the size of the inner rectangle to “65, 65” as shown in the figure below.

9. With the left mouse button, select the lower cover and the long rectangle above it, and perform a “Union” operation.

Delete the large rectangle in the lower cover.

Click on the small rectangle above the lower cover and perform a “Difference” operation.

Click on the lower cover, set the rounded corner radius to “3”, and apply rounded corners to the grooves as shown in the figure below.

10. With the left mouse button, click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar and draw two rectangles with a width and height of “100, 6”. Place them on the top and bottom sides of the left cover.

Click on each rectangle and perform a “Difference” operation separately.

Draw a circle with a diameter of “6” and align it horizontally in the center of the left cover as shown in the figure below.

12. Duplicate and paste the two lower covers and the back cover once.

With the above operations, you have obtained all the drawings for the square frame of the ambient light, as shown in the figure below.

 Acrylic Pattern Design

1. With the left mouse button, click on the “Rectangle” tool in the left toolbar and draw Rectangle 1 with dimensions of “93, 100”.

Duplicate and paste the small rectangle inside the lower cover and move it to the center of Rectangle 1.

Duplicate and paste Rectangle 1 and the small rectangle as shown in the figure below.

Place a nut and a gasket at the switch location, thread them through the circular hole in the top cover, and then screw in another nut and gasket to secure the switch. Apply glue inside the square frame, and fix the various components of the wiring inside. This will combine the wiring with the outer frame.

Part Six: Conclusion

This course belongs to an advanced level, where young designers need to brainstorm and consider how to connect the structures for the outer frame. The structures obtained from “Creation” require further redesign to achieve the outer frame of the ambient light.

Next comes the circuit connection, where young designers will need to use a soldering iron. It is important for them to have a basic understanding of circuit connections to ensure that they can connect the circuits correctly.

There may be some difficulty during the operation, so young designers should be careful and precise!
