What’s a Manual Focus Tool Look Like?
First. Let’s look at the manual focus tool used for manual focus. Focus tool has a T-shaped design, coming with the Bolt series.
Usage Steps of Manual Focus
Using the manual focus tool is quick and easy thanks to the thoughtful design.
1. Take the manual focus tool and hook it up to the two screws on the laser head. These two setscrews are in the same position for all lenses of the Bolt seriess, so you won’t need to adjust anything for different lenses.
2. Adjust the Z-axis height while observing the manual focus tool. Focusing is complete when the bottom end of the focus tool comes into contact with the surface of the material. When using the rotary, use a spirit level to confirm that the upper surface is level.
Be careful not to raise the laser bed too high, as this can cause the manual focus tool to tilt and throw off the focus. A little patience here goes a long way in getting the best results.
When to use Manual Focus:
If the object you’re engraving has an uneven or warped surface, use the manual focus at the engraving position to ensure precision. Similarly, elastic materials like EVA foam can deform under sensor pressure, so manual focus is your best bet in those cases.
And of course, if the sensors are acting up—whether due to misalignment or malfunction—manual focus saves the day. It’s a reliable backup when things aren’t going as planned.
