1.What are the four great inventions of our country?
2.Who invented our country’s movable type printing?
3.What is movable type printing?
(2)Do it by hand
1. Prepare before class
* Find a poem of seven or five characters that you like and count the number of words in the poem;
* Design the size of the font (requirements: the font should be square);
* According to the distribution of the font, design the size of the font plate.
2.Designing Fonts
(1) Open LaserMaker.
(2) Design a single word pattern according to the design steps of the seal design drawing.
(Tip: Refer to the course of “3.1 New Print – Single Character Seal”)
(3) According to the number of words counted in advance, click the “Array copy” in the menu bar above the software to copy the single character font, and double-click the text in the square to modify it.
(4) Delete the text and engraving layer of the design drawing of the redundant font
(5)Select all fonts and click “Rotation – Horizontal flip” on the menu bar above the software for image processing.
(6) Set the parameters of “Cutting” and “engraving” (Tip: 3mm plywood is used, and 3mm material thickness should be selected for cutting parameters) Check the sequence of layers after parameter setting is completed.
3.Design the font plate
(1) First select all the fonts and see what their total size is. (The dimensions shown are 125*125mm)
(2) Create a new file or draw a square with the total size of the font in the blank interface. (125*125mm) as the size of the font layout.
(3) Draw a square about 10mm larger than the font plate, and place it in the middle of the font plate (as shown in the picture). This design drawing is cut out as the border of the font plate.
(4)Draw a square with the same size as the outer border (135*135mm in the figure)as a font plate.
(5) Set the “cutting” parameter of the font plate (tip: 3mm plywood is used, the cutting parameter should choose 3mm material thickness)
4.Machine demonstration
Import the design file demonstrated above into the laser cutting machine for processing.
(Tip: Remember to adjust the focal length before processing to avoid impenetrable cutting.)
5.Splicing assembly
(1)Align the outer frame with the edge of the plate and use white latex or hot glue to secure it.
(2)Sort the finished letters on the plate in the order of the verses.
6.Movable type printing
Use the finished type for movable type printing.
(1) Prepare materials such as ink, ink stone, brush, rice paper and roller.
(2) First of all, use the brush to evenly brush the ink on each font.
(3) Then spread the rice paper, use the roller gently rolling, so that the ink evenly covered on the rice paper.
(4)Finally slowly open the rice paper, movable type printing production is complete!
(3)Think after class
1. Through the production process of printing, students briefly retell how movable type printing is completed?
2. Through the process of making letters, we will find that the making method of letters is the same as the making method of seals. Then students think about what materials can be used to carve besides wood? What material is appropriate to use to make the font?
3. Think about it. What kind of printing is there besides movable type?
4. Students, come on stage and tell me why you chose this poem? What inspiration did it bring to you?

(4) Preparation for Teaching
* Please prepare relevant consumables, accessories and tools according to the attached table and the actual number of students.
* Ensure that students have the latest version of LaserMaker laser editing software installed on their computers.
* Please prepare the relevant presentation props in advance according to the PPT.
(5)Teaching process
1. Teaching introduction
Guide students into the topic of this lesson by asking questions:
1. What are the four great inventions of our country?
Printing, compass, gunpowder and paper.
2. Who invented China movable type printing?
Bisheng in the Northern Song Dynasty
3. What is movable type printing?
Movable type is a method of printing in which movable blocks of metal or mastic type are used in place of traditional copying or non-reusable printed forms. The method of movable type printing is to make a positive and reverse type of the words, then select the words according to the manuscript, arrange them in a type plate, ink the printing, and then remove the type until the next type is printed.
Watch the video: After watching the video, whether the students have a little understanding of how the movable type printing is printed, then let us personally experience the traditional Chinese culture!

In ancient times there were blocks of metal or clay
3. Come to think of it, what kind of printing is there besides movable type?
Block printing
4. Come on stage and tell me why you chose this poem? What inspiration did it bring to you?
