Laser cutter software RDworks v8 tutorial 12 How to Set Cutting Parameters
In this lesson, we will learn how to set cutting parameters using RDworksV8.
- Select the Target Object: Ensure the “Output” setting is set to “Yes”.
- Set Cutting Speed: The speed you set depends on the material you are cutting and its thickness. Below are common laser cutting parameters for reference. https://www.thunderlaser.com/laser-cutter-settings-for-different-materials/
- Generally, for most laser cutting machines, the maximum cutting speed is 300mm/s. While you can set a faster speed, it won’t significantly reduce cutting time and may lower cutting quality.
- For the processing mode, select “Cutting”.
- Set Minimum and Maximum Power: For better cutting quality, the minimum power should typically be set slightly lower than the maximum power.
- What does this mean? When the laser makes turns, the speed decreases. Lowering the power at these points (known as corner power) can reduce damage from reflections.
- Confirm Settings: Click “OK” and send the file to your laser cutter.
Common Cutting Tips:
- Enable Auxiliary Air Assist:
- Air assist helps cut thicker materials and reduces charring when cutting wood, resulting in cleaner edges.
- If you frequently cut thick wood, consider adding an air compressor to significantly improve cutting efficiency.
- Cutting Acrylic:
- Use the slowest possible speed for smoother edges.
